KOGOJ'S “DUINO” CHESS SET

2 KOGOJ'S “DUINO” CHESS SET

(chess board 52 cm x 52 cm, chess pieces 5,5 cm – 12 cm, maple and walnut wood)

The design is based upon the rediscovered cosmic energies, which in Sanskrit are referred to as PRANA energies. The knowledge of shapes can be found in all ancient civilisations – a good shape equals good energy, etc. When one finds a natural egg-shaped stone in a riverbed, one can feel its good energy.
When playing chess, we are influenced by the PRANA energy, the MENTAL energy, the energy of the HAND and that of the ACTION. The energy of the shapes of this CHESS set is based upon 50 years of research on shapes and energies, aimed at creating an equivalent of the current version of congress CHESS. The chess pieces are combinations of the lingam shape, as materialised according to Sai Baba, a cross (see the cross made from a 2000 year-old oak in the permanent collection of the O. K. Nature Design Gallery) and the Lipizzan horse (the sculpture designed by Oskar Kogoj).
The name CHESS is derived from the word SOU HAM, meaning the INHALATION and EXHALATION of divinity, which comes from VEDANTA – the knowledge of VEDA SCRIPTURES – VYASA. The product is a masterpiece, made by the Novak family from Vnanje Gorice in the Ljubljana marshes.
The chess pieces are primarily made by hand, using the tools and techniques of ancient masters, as this is the only way to make such high-quality pieces that cannot be made by machines. The pieces may differ slightly from one another, however the point of the handwork is not to achieve completely identical items. We use modern varnishes and wood stains as well as materials of ancient masters (beeswax, shellac) to treat the surfaces of the pieces, which are made from the finest local wood types, such as walnut and maple.
First, the elements are cut, then hand-planed and processed by milling and boring. Then they are polished, coated with varnish three times and polished again. The final polish of the maple pieces contains beeswax and shellac for the walnut pieces.

STICK OF WISDOM

While taking a walk and studying nature on Duino cliff, I found roots of a sumac bush, which decorates the Karst landscape with its red leaves every autumn. This root gave me an inspiration to create this special stick ... DUINO means GOD and is one of the oldest pre-Christian power points with healing vibrations. The interior of the Duino cave contains water, and was therefore the ancient Veneti sanctuary, where a white horse the symbol of God was donated to the sea during the spring solstice.
The heart is the secret energy of the stick. It is a reflection of the divine consciousness of a person. We often say: "God is in my heart, love is in my heart." To have an insight into yourself, does not mean observing your physical body, but observing the art of pure love of cosmic consciousness through senses, as if being in deep meditation. On my 70th anniversary, I have dedicated the Stick of wisdom to all my girls in the family.

FOUR-LEAF CLOVER – the symbol of happiness

5 FOUR-LEAF CLOVER – the symbol of happiness

(ø = 47 cm, h = 6 cm, wallnut wood)

The happiest people quickly find a four-leaf clover; they have developed sight and spirituality.
The clover is a very special shape of nature, which in cross form combines four basic elements of life – earth, air, water, and fire. Each leaf of the clover has its meaning – HOPE, FAITH, LOVE AND HAPPINESS.
The clover also symbolises the four different seasons, the four cardinal points, etc.
When a person sees this shape and accepts it, one accepts visible and invisible beauty into ones heart.
A four-leaf clover in a tray is a combination of energies which the shape of the vibrating sun OM radiates into PRANA ENERGY FIELD. In space they radiate positive vibration, thus the vibrating ENERGY DESIGN, which is also cosmic INTELLIGENCE, intertwines with the whole UNIVERSE, which a person that is aware can use. Natural form is a prayer and a vibration.

LIST ŽIVLJENJA LIST ŽIVLJENJA

The Leaf of Life is the last object from the “The Leaves of Peace” Collection. It was modelled on the leaf of a large rubber plant, which was plucked in Syracuse, Sicily right in front of the Our Lady of Tears Church. A miracle occurred there in 1953 when a statue of the Virgin Mary wept tears for three days.
The leaf is dedicated to all women for only they are able to give birth to new life. It is also dedicated to everyone who wholeheartedly strives for peace, love, non-violence and new life.

(28 cm x 17 cm, walnut wood)

Shape is energy, shape is nature and nature is God’s creation. Art and design are an expression of man’s mental state and the inspiration that is related to it. The artist wishes to give a visible creative shape to his or her inspiration, passing on the truth about him or her onto his or her successors. There are different strategies or shapes: light signs, wavy lines, eggs, vibrations...that inspire the author in designing.
Handmade wooden trays are designed for representative occasions and are a metaphor for waves or vibrations, representing the creation of all that is beautiful and good.

14 DIOCLETIAN HAND MIRROR

(41 cm x 15 cm, walnut wood, mirror or mirror with 23-carat gold)

The old hand mirror that was found in Split at Diocletian’s Palace demonstrates ethnographic value. Kogoj’s mirror resembles this shape, as it is in the form of a perfect ellipse. It symbolically reminds us of the archetype of creation, the egg from which all the timeless cultural heritage of Dalmatia originates. The mirror has healing powers and belongs to the Energy Design Collection. It is made of noble walnut wood, hand-gilded with 23-carat gold according to old Venetian traditions, which gives the mirror even more divine energy, as it radiates the nobility of the old gilding culture.
In 2003, an exhibit was held at Diocletian’s Palace, hosting 60 of Kogoj’s works of art that he had given to the city of Split. In 2005, to mark the 1700th anniversary of Diocletian’s Palace, the DIOCLETIAN SARCOPHAGUS was artistically designed from precious Brač stone “rasotica” and put up on display.

16 SLICER FOR TRUFFLES OR PARMESAN CHEESE

(25 cm x 11 cm, walnut wood)

The ‘Nature design’ signifies reverence for nature in all its beauty, kindness and intelligence.
The truffle is a gift from God and its taste of nature is irreplaceable. The knife for slicing millimetre-thick slices is formed in the shape of a mirror, because a mirror is intended for observing oneself. In a mirror, we are able to see what we are feeding our body with for this is what we will become in our physical body.
We encourage the consumption of natural food to enable divine reality within ourselves. We must think good thoughts because a good thought means good energy and good food for all of us.
